Bluey - rewriting the rules on how to parent

Melissa Fyfe's May 8 cover story 'New Tricks' looks at the influence of cartoon TV show Bluey, a global success that is as popular with adults as it is with kids. Joining Melissa is Marc de Rosnay, professor of child development at the University of Wollongong, who says Bluey is rewriting the rules on how to parent four to six-year-olds. Moderated by Good Weekend editor Katrina Strickland, the discussion covers everything from the guilt the show's superdad Bandit elicits in parents to the reasons for the show’s success and the power of play and imagination. Also some good news: parents need not look for an educational outcome from playing with their kids. Play is its own reward.
