b'The SOS Chronicles with Chris: Suzette Rodriguez case\\n\\nSuzette Rodriguez (alias Maria Cortina), Elmsford, NY: Unsolved for 45 Years Suzette Rodriguez was shot three times in the face at near point-blank range with a .38 caliber revolver in the Westchester County village of Elmsford on October 14, 1977. Charles Lachman of the White Plains Reporter Dispatch wrote that the victim (who weighed just eighty-nine pounds, the medical examiner noted) may have belonged to "a cult prone to violence". Early reports identified Rodriguez, 22, as "Maria Cortina"-the alias she had used when police arrested her on a shoplifting charge in Yonkers the previous July. (Son of Sam shooter David Berkowitz later identified Rodriguez as an acquaintance, and said that he knew her as Maria.) Rodriguez was correctly identified a few days later, and, said Elmsford police chief George McElroy, "We have a possible motive." Bizarrely, Rodriguez was gunned down on the lawn of the house next door to the chief\'s, and he discovered the body himself.\\nNeighbors who heard the shots, including McElroy, rushed outside to see a white car with a black top speeding away; police said Rodriguez had been shot while standing up, outside the car.
