"Off the Ice" with Akil Thomas (LA Kings Prospect)
In the pilot episode, I'm joined by LA Kings prospect and Canadian World Junior hero, Akil Thomas. Born and raised in the GTA, Akil played his minor hockey in the GTHL before spending time with both the Niagara Ice Dogs and the Peterborough Petes en route to being drafted 51rst overall in 2018. In an impactful opening episode, Akil opens up about some of the ups and downs of his hockey career, his personal battles against racism and inequality, as well as the shift in culture within today's NHL.
