Coping With Physical and Mental Exhaustion to Set Better Expectations

Published: Sept. 24, 2021, noon

There are an incredible amount of things that contribute to us having mental fatigue and dealing with this is important if we want to live happier lives with attainable expectations.

Episode Highlights

30    Physically fatiguing my body can completely destroy my ability to make decisions and even remember things.

00    Post-workout my inability to process information and make even minor decisions is comical.

00    Almost all of us are done with making decisions by noon if we are really honest with ourselves.

30    Despite 100% of the time never meeting my ideal start of day routine goals, I still mentally tally it every single morning.

00    I find myself burning through decisions without even making them! It’s crazy.

00    The quality of our decisions decreases throughout the course of the day.

30    Saving mental energy by reducing important decisions has been key in increasing my quality of life. I try to keep it to three big decisions a day and let the rest be as inconsequential as possible.

00    Getting the biggest tasks off the table before noon really liberates me from agonizing over decisions late in the day.

00    Happiness is knowing what I’m not equipped to do or am not interested enough to do and accepting that about myself.

00    My life has been interruptible for the last half-decade. Mini goals have become the only goals.

00    Adding any kind of physical effort on top of mental effort means I need recovery time before I can make a good decision again.

00    Using your brain or creativity fatigues your body as much as fatiguing your body fatigues your brain.

00    We can’t be expected to function at peak performance all the time, even though we wish we could.

20    Willpower will help you start something, but it won’t help you make a great decision while you’re there.

00    We are physical beings that have the delusion that our brains have infinite power no matter what we demand of our bodies and minds.

00    Are you easy on yourself when you hit the wall? Do you take the time to power yourself back up?

45    Allowing yourself to surrender to being useless after a giant physical or mental effort feels great.
