You may not know it but Gainesville has it’s very own rock monolith.

On a piece of Veteran’s Memorial Park, toward the back of the property nestled under low drooping oak limbs, Gainesville’s monolithic rock sculpture is perched atop a 10-foot-hill overlooking Chapman’s Pond. I happened upon these thirteen stones that are placed in a circle one afternoon while on a walk with my son. We were on a Pokemon hunt but found a mystery instead. These rocks have swirls, suns, moons, animals and even an eye carved into the limestone rock. Looking around you don’t see much indication what this circle is. Come Join me, Brad McClenny, with The Gainesville Sun, and learn the classified history of Chapman's Pond and The Gainesville Monolith.
