Austin Horan retired from FDNY as a Deputy Chief after 37 years of faithful service. We talk about his humble beginnings as a poor Irish kid from the Bronx, getting his work ethic from his father, and learning to be a plumber as a young man. Austin shares advice he received from mentors coming up through the ranks that helped shape his career. He tells me about the three confirmed miracles in his life, some funny stories, and what leaders need to remember when leading in high stress environments. Chief Horan gives his 9/11 story. It is moving. This interview covers many topics. There were moments I laughed, got choked up, and times when I had chills and was rendered speechless. This man is a wonderful human being and I feel blessed to be able to call him a friend. Take a listen and you'll see why.
