In #Onpoli news: as part of its budget announcement yesterday, the province has committed to funding the development of a new hospital in Brampton. Mayor Brown joins to discuss the latest. ----------------- Yesterday's budget announcement revealed that the province has committed to spending $186.1 billion. One of the hardest hit areas has been the economy and eligible businesses learned that they will get a second grant of up to $20,000. Our business panel weighs in on what this all means and their expectations for the months ahead. Libby Znaimer is joined by Rocco Rossi, President and CEO of the Ontario Chamber of Commerce, Donna Dooher, Co-owner of Mildred's Temple Kitchen here in Liberty Village, and Madelyn Amson, Manager of BANG Salon. ----------------- What about long-term care where 3,764 of our elders in Ontario lost their lives? And where there was more devastation in the second wave than in the first despite the government’s promise to put an "iron ring" around the sector? The province has announced and renounced their long-term plan to ramp up to 4 hours of daily care per resident. They are promising to spend 4.9 billion on this - this year’s contribution will only be 10% of that. Most of the spend is slated for a time after the next election. Where does that leave us? Libby Znaimer is joined by Bill VanGorder, Interim Chief Policy Officer at CARP. ----------------- We ask her for the latest update regarding Toronto's COVID-19 vaccine rollout, why adults 80 and older fell through the cracks in the rollout, and what the City is doing in order to ease vaccine access to this specific age group. Another key question we have is why the distribution is very siloed and why other groups like the homeless have been pushed ahead of older adults in the line to get their shots. Libby Znaimer is joined by Dr. Eileen de Villa, Medical Officer of Health for the City of Toronto.
