#54 FEPS Talks: Protests in Poland: another clash or the beginning of a transformation?

Published: Oct. 30, 2020, 9:54 a.m.

Dr. Agnieszka Dziemianowicz-Bak, Polish MP "Left Coalition" Group, and Dr. Ania Skrzypek, FEPS Director for Reasearch and Training, analyse the current situation in Poland. Thousands of people of all ages march the streets of Polish cities, towns and villages. They took to the streets, after the governing party Law and Justice politically controlled Constitutional Tribunal - for which the EU launched infringement procedures - and ruled to further restrict the already oppressive abortion law. The government calls the protests disrespectful to democratic decision making; the protesters are demanding the governing party to leave altogether. The tensions keep raising, with 30 October set to be the date for the “battle for the capital”. In #FEPS Talks we are asking Dr. Agnieszka Dziemianowicz-Bak MP why this protest is unlike any previous one, and what the European Progressives can do - beyond showing solidarity - to help.
