Why Are Alabama Prison Inmates Dying?
Alabama runs the most violent prison system in America. In 2019, alone, an astonishing thirteen people were killed inside Alabama‘s prisons and the record sixty deaths since2010 is a tenfold increase from the previous decade. While the national homicide rate for state prisons,is 7 per 100,000 inmates, in 2019, Alabama state prisons’ homicide rate is 62 per 100,000 (according to the Bureau of Justice Statistics’ latest numbers)
