How Equity In Energy Impacts Marginalized Communities

Published: Nov. 8, 2019, 8:10 p.m.

What is equity in energy? Without energy to power our cars and devices, we as humanity would not exist. We need energy to power our modern way of life. Across America, energy is used to fuel our cars, power the electricity in our homes, treat our water supply, and provide us with access to energy resources. Even more so, millions of minority residents lack access to careers and opportunities in the ever-expanding energy sector.

’Equity In Energy’ refers to an initiative by the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Economic Impact & Diversity designed to include and expand the participation of individuals in underserved communities, which includes minorities, native Americans, women, veterans and formerly incarcerated persons, in all the programs of the Department of Energy.
