67. How to Find Courage Amidst Change through the Power of Solitude and Storytelling — Wes Woodson

Published: May 17, 2021, 9 a.m.

"A good story is one that is vulnerable and authentic. And not just crafted up. So let’s go back to the TED Talk. Yeah, I did come out there and I said I have social anxiety...I admitted my biggest fear. Storytelling is so powerful because it gives you the ability to knock down that wall and establish connections. So I personally think a good story is one that provokes emotion and that is extremely vulnerable and authentic." - Wes Woodson

Welcome back to another episode of Discover More.

This week’s guest is Wes Woodson.

Wes is the founder and chief-story teller of thehidden, a clothing brand that inspires young people to be their true selves.

He started a non-profit at 16, delivered a TED talk at 21, and is about to release his first book, titled, “I Have Anxiety (So What?)”

After suffering a panic attack that landed him in a mental health clinic, Wes thought, “Why do I have to go to the lowest point in my life to get this level of knowledge?”

This started his mission to share stories and toolkits that he learned in anxiety school to help others own their anxiety.

In this week’s conversation, he shares many of the book’s insights, but we highly recommend you to pick up a copy when it’s released this Thursday, May 20, 2021.

In addition to mental health and healing, storytelling is a huge topic of conversation.

Wes explains what makes a good story, and how stories are fundamental to human connection.

He’s is one of the most genuine and talented storytellers and humans we’ve ever met, and we’re so excited to share this episode with you.

We hope you enjoy this week's episode of Discover More, with us and Wes Woodson.
