WHEN Woodend’s Samantha Rixon describes the feeling she gets taking a warm loaf of bread out of the oven or the first time she uses her beautiful handmade natural soaps, her entire face lights up.
Her passion for all things homemade is almost palpable. So, her friends and family weren’t surprised when she announced she was quitting her 9 to 5 corporate city job to run workshops in her mudbrick cottage with Woodend’s forested backdrop as her view.
With a nod to the 1940s, where taking time to make homemade goods was the norm, The School of Domestic Goddessery was launched in December last year.
“I was inspired by my wonderful parents who had always embraced homemade goods and focused on production not consumption. We had homemade clothes, food, jams and bread and grew our own veggies. When my sister and I wanted biscuits, we made them,” she said.
