History of Cocaine
Cocaine, also known as\xa0coke, is a strong\xa0stimulant\xa0mostly used as a\xa0recreational drug.[10]\xa0It is commonly\xa0snorted, inhaled as smoke, or dissolved and injected into a\xa0vein.[9]\xa0Mental effects may include\xa0loss of contact with reality, an\xa0intense feeling of happiness, or\xa0agitation.[9]Physical symptoms may include a\xa0fast heart rate, sweating, and\xa0large pupils.[9]\xa0High doses can result in very\xa0high blood pressure\xa0or\xa0body temperature.[11]\xa0Effects begin within seconds to minutes of use and last between five and ninety minutes.[9]\xa0Cocaine has a small number of accepted medical uses such as\xa0numbing\xa0and decreasing bleeding during nasal surgery.[12]
