Why China will never “rule” the world?

In 1974, as China’s first public voice at the UN General Assembly meeting, Leader Deng Xiaoping made a solemn promise:

“China is not now and will not be a superpower in the future. If China one day changes its color and rules the world, bullies, invades, and exploits people everywhere, then the people of the world should expose it, oppose it, and defeat it together with the Chinese people.”

Since then, China has made it clear at major international forums almost every year that China will never seek hegemony, expansion, or sphere of influence.

In fact, even if China surpasses the United States in the near future to become the world’s largest superpower, China will never engage in hegemonism like the United States.

There are four reasons why I say so.

China Explained will show you that because of China’s continued success in industrial upgrading, technological innovation and realizing its huge potential, it is an unstoppable process. The inevitable rise of China may feel intimidating and some simply reject it. Don’t be. China’s rise is part of the new global trend unlike what we have seen in the past one hundred years. Embrace the change and seize the opportunity.
