Who can’t condemn Australian war crimes?

Published: Dec. 2, 2020, 5 a.m.

Not only does China cannot condemn war crimes committed by Australian soldiers in Afghanistan, the Australian Prime Minister Morrison actually asked China to formally apologize.

The reason is ridiculous! What is going on here?

According to Australian Sky News, Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison asked China to formally apologize on the grounds that the Chinese side "published and forged a propaganda picture of an Australian soldier who had cut a boy’s throat."

This is how it happened. On November 30, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson urged Australia to investigate the recent war crimes allegations and quoted the artist’s caricature in a tweet in which an Australian soldier held a knife against a child’s throat with the text "Don't be afraid, we are coming to bring you peace."

Morrison was very dissatisfied with this. He said at the press conference: "This is totally outrageous, and it is untenable on any basis... The Chinese government should feel ashamed that this post is published. This degrades China’s image in the eyes of the world." He also said that countries around the world are paying attention to how Beijing responds to the tensions in Australia-China relations.

Regarding Australian Prime Minister Morrison’s accusation against China, anyone who knows the truth will think that Morrison is really shameless!

Why do I say that?

Because what China asked Australia to investigate was an incident exposed by the Western media a few days ago. The video disclosed by the Western media showed that Australian soldiers used Afghan civilians as targets for "killing practice" in Afghanistan.

In the exposed video, Australian soldiers directly shot and killed innocent Afghan civilians for no reason. The commander of the Australian Defence Force also publicly admitted to 20 to 30 similar incidents.  Two of the victims were only 14 years old, and their throats were cut with a dagger and their bodies were thrown into the river. Moreover, judging from the proficiency of Australian soldiers in shooting and killing, the numbers are probably far more than what they have admitted so far .

Australian soldiers conduct open killing training in Afghanistan. Isn't this bloody reality worse than the caricature quoted in the tweet? Australian soldiers were sent to Afghanistan by the Australian government. Isn't the Australian government responsible for this? Is it wrong for China to condemn this killing of innocent civilians?

It is heinous that, as the Prime Minister of Australia, Morrison not only did not feel ashamed for the war crimes committed by his own country’s soldiers, not only did he not apologize for it and conduct a thorough investigation, but he asked the Chinese who condemned the tweet to apologize. What is the logic? It is so unreasonable and totally absurd.

China Explained will show you that because of China’s continued success in industrial upgrading, technological innovation and realizing its huge potential, it is an unstoppable process. The inevitable rise of China may feel intimidating and some simply reject it. Don’t be. China’s rise is part of the new global trend unlike what we have seen in the past one hundred years. Embrace the change and seize the opportunity.
