Pompeo Speech on China

The US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo recently delivered a long speech at the Nixon Presidential Library. The topic is "Communist China and the Free World’s Future". This speech is also called the "Iron Curtain Speech" of the 21st century because of many It is believed that like the "Iron Curtain Speech" delivered by the former British Prime Minister on March 5, 1946, which opened the curtain of the Cold War between the United States and the Soviet Union after World War II, Pompeo's speech will also open the "new cold war" of China and the United States in the 21st century.

I suggest that everyone who is concerned about Sino-US relations read it, because only after reading the full text will you know how deep the prejudice and misunderstanding of some people in this US administration are towards China and how strong their hostility towards China is. After reading it, whether you are on the left or on the right, can you truly "give up your illusions on the Sino-US relationship.

Pompeo declared that the previous US government policy of engaging China did not meet the original target of induce change in China. China did not follow its design, taking the western liberal democracy path of. This is actually the common "logic" of the US's China policy in the past few years. The core view is that the US has helped China integrate into the international system, but China has not followed the Western path as the US expected.

For many people in China, this is totally incomprehensible: how come a country with a history just 200 years is so arrogant to think they can set the development path and direction for an ancient civilized country with five thousands years of civilization ?

After reading the words of American officials such as Pompeo, China's strategy in the near future should still be "abandon illusions, persist in struggle, hold the bottom line, and watch for changes." Regardless of the trade war or geopolitical competition between China and the United States, China does not want to cause trouble, but if the United States really wants to cause trouble, China will fight to the end.

For China, the most important thing is to strengthen confidence and maintain unity and rationality internally.
