Mulan shows how China and the West differ

So I went to watch the new Disney movie "Mulan". To be honest, it was the lead actress Liu Yifei's face that allowed me to watch the whole movie. The biggest disappointment and revelation from this movie lies in the logic of Americans telling Chinese stories.

I guess you will not go watch that movie so I'll spoil it a little bit. This is the only and final spoiler alert.

Through the movie "Mulan", we can also understand a little bit why China's cultural export always fails and how to save it. The first disappointment is the concept of the family. The movie kept saying she fights for the family. It feels that the country is never important, and the glory and future of the family are the goals of one's struggle. Well, this logic is very European and American.

The second disappointment is the concept of “Qi”or internal energy.

In the movie, Mulan is a gifted girl with a huge amount of unawakened “Qi” hidden in her body. Mulan must be shown as a female in order to stimulate the Qi in her body and in order to level up to defeat the final boss.

Those who have never watched a movie can still understand that this Mulan is no different from American blockbuster characters such as Iron Man and Spiderman. They are born with extraordinary talents and are different from ordinary people. They are destined to achieve great things. The only thing they need is a chance.
