China tests "hypersonic weapons"?

Published: Oct. 20, 2021, 4 a.m.

Recently, the Financial Times speculated that China tested a "hypersonic missile with nuclear warheads" in August. However, this may also be a spacecraft test.

On October 18, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosted a regular press conference and responded to reporters' questions. “This test is a routine spacecraft test to verify the spacecraft's reusable technology, which is of great significance for reducing the cost of spacecraft, and can provide a convenient and cheap way for humans to use space peacefully. Many companies in the world have carried out similar experiments. Before the spacecraft returns, it is the supporting equipment of the spacecraft that will be burned and disintegrated in the process of falling into the atmosphere, and will fall in the East China Sea. China will work with other countries in the world for the peaceful use of space for the benefit of mankind.”

Therefore, the news that the Financial Times received from the United States is purely speculation, and it is finally confirmed that it is a spacecraft test rather than a hypersonic weapon. So what does this incident show? This shows two points: First, the so-called "hypersonic weapons" are technically connected with spacecraft technology, and the United States is likely to conduct research on this, but there are no mature results. On this point, we can learn from The research direction of the US space weaponization. The second is that China is testing the technology, which the US does not have. Therefore, the US is very nervous.
