b'International Human Rights Day (Dec. 10) commemorates the day in 1948 the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The Human Rights Commission in NL was scheduled to present the 2023 Human Rights Awards today. Nine people made the shortlist, and about half of that list were noted for the work to promote the rights of the LGBTQ+ community. Sarah Worthman, executive director of the NL Queer Research Initiative, and Emile Sopkowe, an educator who helped create the Gender and Sexual Diversity Special Interest Council of the NLTA, were nominees.'
