#114 - Central Vista Project: Criticism Valid? | Aashish Chandorkar & Nirav Kanodra | Bharatvaarta

Published: May 11, 2021, 11:30 a.m.

The Central Vista Redevelopment Project, or the revamp of the power  corridor of the country, envisages a new triangular Parliament building,  a common Central Secretariat, the revamping of the 3km-long Rajpath  from the Rashtrapati Bhavan to India Gate and new residences for the  Prime Minister and the Vice-President.   Ever since the Bhumi Pujan in December 2020, it has come under attack  from various corners. On this episode, Aashish (Author, Columnist,  Public Policy Expert) and Nirav (Banker, Public Policy Commentator)  examine the critique and add depth and perspective to our understanding  of the project. Nirav begins the discussion by explaining what the  project entails and speaks about the architect, Bimal Patel’s, legacy  and contributions.   Aashish speaks about the need for the project and also discusses  threadbare the common objections: ranging from economic and  environmental to political and pandemic. Along the way they speak about  the history and politics of delimitation and also, the general  opposition to infrastructure projects in India. This is a very  comprehensive analysis of a topic that has occupied significant news  coverage and chatter in recent times.
