Published: May 9, 2017, 7 p.m.

In 1992, Joe Jacobi became an Olympic Champion canoeist. Along with Scott Strausbaugh, they claimed gold in the C-2 event in Barcelona. They were the first American team to capture gold in whitewater slalom. This week Joe is Richard’s guest on the Best in the World. Joe explains to Richard that a flowing river is a great metaphor for life. He talks about correcting mistakes, his influences and how he prepared for the 1992 Olympics. Joe was the CEO of USA Canoe/Kayak for five years between 2009-14. He explains how he worked with other people in that role and how he coped with the pressures of the job. Last year Joe had his gold medal stolen but managed to get it back after 7-year-old Chloe Smith found it in a bin! Joe tells us about that story on the podcast. Each week Joe puts out an inspirational newsletter.
