Because we tend to listen to respond versus listen to understand, we often pigeon hole others. People will elude to something specific, and therefore be specific to a subject, and we automatically classify their entirety based on that specific statement, stance, etc.... We must do a better job coming from a place of understanding over quickly classifying others by pigeonholing them. Failing to understand by responding too quickly serves no real purpose other than to build barriers between us and others.
