Published: March 5, 2019, 2 p.m.

b'“Sadly, the American Dream is dead.”
\\nIt was a refrain repeated often by Donald Trump as he campaigned for president, and it resonated throughout the country. But what is the American Dream, and what killed it? In his new book, “Alienated America: Why Some Places Thrive While Others Collapse,” Tim Carney explores these questions. He joined us on Banter this week to discuss.
\\nTimothy P. Carney is a visiting fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, where he works on economic competition, cronyism, civil society, localism, and religion in America. He is concurrently the commentary editor at the Washington Examiner.
