The Jargon of the Day is Least Restrictive Environment (LRE). In the United States every school aged child is legally entitled to a "Free appropriate public education in the least restrictive environment that give the student a floor of opportunity to access the curriculum." For many students this means being included with their neurotypical peers, but with accommodations. It is important to determine a students ability to be mainstreamed with supports before making a decision to place them in a setting where they do not have access to their peers.
