My name is Kelsey and I hate Do Nows. Well, I hated Do Nows up until this school year.\\xa0

As a student I never saw a reason to do them.\\xa0 This is mostly because my teachers never graded them, let alone looked at them.\\xa0 When my teachers were circling the room to check and see how their students were doing on the Do Now, I\\u2019d pretend to write something.\\xa0 I one time wrote about ducks.\\xa0 True Story.\\xa0

As a teacher, I felt like my Do Nows. were so difficult to plan.\\xa0 I never had a \\u201cbrain\\u201d for them.\\xa0 They seemed to take up almost as much time to plan as the main activity in my lesson.\\xa0 This was not going to fly.\\xa0 I changed what I did for Do Nows nearly every month because I couldn\\u2019t figure out a simple way to deal with them that was easy for me and my students.\\xa0\\xa0\\xa0

Once I had figured out a method, I knew I was going to have to figure out a way to make it meaningful to my students, so they didn\\u2019t feel like 16 year old me.\\xa0 I wanted them to see the value to the Do Nows!

For that reason, I made it a point to look at EVERY SINGLE Do Now.\\xa0 But of course, my students helped me out with this one.\\xa0 They self assessed.\\xa0
