A Conversation About Staffing

Published: Sept. 4, 2019, 3 p.m.

Staffing agencies provide short-term skilled or semi-skilled labor on a situational basis to businesses needing extra help during busy periods.  For many small businesses, temporary worker demand may include filling in during vacation, or maternity leave, or to meet the demands of seasonal operations.  In these situations, a staffing company can really take pressure off the business owner.  Staffing agencies can also be a resource for companies who prefer a temp-to-hire arrangement, where the staffing agency takes on the risk of the new hire process allowing the business to “try before you buy.”

P.K. Zander, Director of Business Development for tempServ, MidCal Labor Solutions, Inc. and Rand Employment Solutions, sits down and joins Greg in a conversation to talk about the process associated with small businesses and staffing companies working together.  He explains the differences between staffing, labor contracting and recruitment, and joins Greg in a discussion about the overall labor market in several key businesses as well as staffing agency costs to the employer.
