Published: July 28, 2016, 11:30 a.m.

Is managing lawyers better than managing client affairs? In theory, hell yes. No more dramatic client interactions or relentless 3 am calls. Drawn-out conversations that could have been solved over a single text message will become a thing of the past. You imagine yourself working on a higher level and expanding your practice. I hear this fantasy regularly. It starts with this: "I want to find a way to do the management thing but not manage the clients." It's a classic case of "the grass is always greener..." I'm going to give you the perspective you need to enter management and avoid the painful cycle of moving from one role to another and back. I've been there. It's not where you want to be.
