In this podcast, Anna is with Debbie Gail Zane. Debbie always knew she wanted to contribute to other people’s lives in a meaningful way. Little did she know that tragedy could hold a gift that would reveal her highest purpose. After losing her beloved son to mental illness and addiction, Debbie transformed her life by turning her pain into her purpose of helping other parents of teens and young adults with mental illness and/or addiction. Through finding her calling, she was able to find healing for herself.

Debbie’s journey of love and loss includes raising three children as a single mom, her oldest son being diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder and becoming addicted to drugs and alcohol, and losing him when he was twenty-six. She has been through challenges with her oldest son’s mental illness and addiction and cared for him, supported him, fought for him, and loved him through his journey. She is so grateful that she had a close loving relationship with her son and every day she cherishes her memories with him.

Throughout her journey, she sought to turn her pain into serving others. This motivated her to become a life and relationship coach and start Debbie Gail Coaching in 2018. She received a Certification as an Advanced Relationship Coach from the Center for Strategic Intervention, a Certificate as a Practitioner of Excellence for completion of Strategic Intervention Boot Camp Training through the Center for Strategic Intervention, and a Certification as an Activation Method Group Coach. Strategic Intervention was founded by Cloe Madanes, Mark and Magali Peysha, and Anthony Robbins.

Quotes:

“There were just so many struggles, and I realized that I wasn\'t the only parent like this, who lived in fear and I eventually found peace in my life.”

“We kind of had separate pathways and but I was so grateful to have had that beautiful relationship with him because you do not always realize until you lose them, like how precious that time is because we just don\'t know.”

“Because we don\'t know, you know, we never know, no one knows what\'s going to happen. And so let\'s take advantage of the time now.”

“It\'s being able to actually bring in exercises for eliminating the fear, and we can\'t completely eliminate it, but what we can do is we can kind of become empowered, so we can rise above it, and we can bring more peace into our lives.”

“We work on you know how to kind of focus on that love instead of the fear, you know how to focus on loving them instead of controlling them, and then it frees up so much energy.”

“One thing I can say is that like, I have all these beautiful memories with him that I cherish and I don\'t I don\'t there\'s no regret.”

“Freedom… to me it means inner peace.”
