b'Brenda Gibson is the quintessential woman-of-all-trades: an athlete, coach, community worker, event planner, businesswoman; and a leader. Brenda brings a unique energy and enthusiasm to all of her endeavours. While attending the University of Toronto, she competed both for Canada and the varsity track team, in addition to teaching at the university\\u2019s track and field camps and classes. After graduating with a degree in English and Fine Arts, she moved to Montreal to serve as both teacher and Track and Field coach at McGill University before returning to teach children and focus her efforts on truly making a difference in the lives that she touched. In 1992, Brenda continued her work with young people back in Toronto, directing her efforts this time on street youth and their families through 416 Drop-In Centre for the homeless and less fortunate. From 2005 - 2012, Brenda served as the Executive Director for the Guelph Youth Music Centre. As a child, Brenda was exposed to all kinds of music which fostered her love and admiration of music and art in all its forms. She describes her parents as people who believed strongly in the value of a balanced upbringing and cultivated diverse interests in each of their five children. Brenda continues to advocate for the importance of exposing young people to any experience that will allow them to express themselves, gain self-confidence, and develop social skills. Raised with the belief that you give back to your community, she recalls spending most of her days off school in the pool teaching special needs children how to swim and later volunteering at the Special Olympic Trails. In 2013, she founded Inspiration, an annual benefit concert that raises money for the Children\\u2019s Foundation of Guelph and the Wellington Music and Art Grant Program. Her devotion to community, youth, and to the arts inspires her vision of ensuring no child goes without these critical creative opportunities. Brenda is currently an Account Executive for Corus Entertainment (known locally in Guelph and surrounding area as Magic 106.1 FM and 1460 CJOY). She lives in Guelph with her two children and her dog Willow.\\n\\nJoin Jan\\xe9t and Brenda as they discuss Inspiration taking place on November 14.'
