The alpaca, a cousin to the llama, is the world's oldest domesticated animal. They are most prized for their soft fleece. Ninety-nine percent of the world's alpacas live in South America, but a little less than a two hundred thousand live in the United States, and a handful of those live on a country ranch outside Cadiz, Kentucky. Angela Hatton visited the ranch, where the owners are trying to raise awareness about this exotic livestock.
