Included with the episode are the recipes below.\n\nFive Spice Apple Crisp\n\nIngredients:\n\n3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted\n6 Golden Delicious apples, peeled and cut into 1/2 inch thick slices\n2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice\n\xbc cup packed brown sugar\n\xbe teaspoon Chinese five-spice powder or \xbd teaspoon ground cinnamon and \xbc teaspoon ground all-spice, plus additional for garnish\n1 cup coarsely crushed Chinese-style almond cookies or almond biscotti\nSweetened whipped cream (optional)\n\nDirections:\n\nButter inside of 4 \xbd quart Crock-Pot with melted butter. \nAdd apples and lemon juice, toss to combine. Sprinkle apples with brown sugar and five-spice powder, toss again. \nCover, cook on low 3 \xbd hours, or until apples are tender. \nSprinkle cookies over apples. \nSpoon into bowls. \nServe warm. \nGarnish with whipped cream and sprinkle with additional five-spice powder.\n\nMakes 4 servings.\n\nHints and Tips for the Kitchen:\n\nNo Honey? (1 cup)\n\n* Use 1 \xbc cups of sugar plus \xbc cup water (or the liquid called for in the recipe?. You're taking a chance, however, whenever you substitute sugar for liquid sweetener, or vice versa, in delicately balanced recipes.\n\nNo Cake Flour?\n\n* Use all-purpose flour. Sift, pile lightly into a 1 cup measure; level off. Then remove 2 tablespoons.
