Genuine people are threatening to the people who are committed to keeping the fantasy and ensuing power and privilege alive. The men who love real women are perhaps more threatening because men are still generally in positions of power, though this is slowly changing. Change could happen faster with recognition of the subtle and overt power exchanges, but that cuts to the very core of why people are threatened.
