NC's First African-American Woman Chief Justice Gets Personal

On the episode of “Tying It Together with Tim Boyum,” North Carolina Supreme Court Chief Justice Cheri Beasley talks about being one of only four female African-American Chief Justices in U.S. history and the first in North Carolina history. The response was worldwide and she talks about how it has impacted her personally. She also talks about growing up in Tennessee, her storied career, and having a birthday on Valentine’s Day. Later, she discusses getting ready for her first partisan election and facing off against a colleague from the state’s highest court.
