Susan Dumbauld is the Vice President of Partner Strategy at MX.  Susan stopped in to share her insights on personal and team career development.

Among other tips, she discussed the use of a Talent Profile to capture team member’s strengths and opportunities.  It was a simple two-page PPTX –

  • First page was all about the individual – likes, family, friends, hobbies, passions, etc.
  • Second page had five key areas – current responsibilities, 2-3 strengths and opportunities aligned to our company’s core values, career aspirations and development plan and next steps.

Sue used this with her teams in two ways – Because she had more exposure to initiatives across the organization, she was able to raise up a team member if they had a particular strength or passion to give them an opportunity to lead others and conversely, if it was a development opportunity that had been identified, she could pair them with someone else strong cross functionality as a way to learn.

Sue also mentioned a course called Career Power, here is the link.
