\nMind the Gap is about the division, separation, difference between when a leader has directives that completely fail to align with what is needed by their employees.
\nWhen there is a distribution of power where only a few get to decide what happens, the hierarchy creates a gap where dissonance then exists.
\nWhen we don't feel what each other is feeling, understand what others are seeing and how they are making decisions, there is a wedge that is created which widens the gap between our ability to perform at a high level. To flourish. To achieve the collective mission.
\nWe must be aligned in order to work together toward the mission's achievement.
\nAlignment, does not, however, mean agreement. We can have diversity of thoughts which is so important for innovation, creativity, ownership, responsibility. We need to have diversity of thought.
\nEmotionally, dissonance creates emotions that are often unpleasant in their experience and that unpleasantness has the potential to leading to disengagement, low motivation, low productivity, ineffective problem solving, distraction, lack of focus. Terrible for the bottom line - right?
\nEmotional intelligence skills arrive on the scene to elevate individual contributions to creating resonance in the workplace (and all life places).
\nLeadership excellence requires skills in relationships, self-awareness, power distribution, people and profit together, people factor and appropriate business factor together.
