In today\\u2019s episode, I chat with Sofian Lamali, the Executive Director, Organizational Development & Effectiveness at SABIC - a global chemicals leader headquartered in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. From making cars and planes more fuel-efficient, to helping conserve the world\\u2019s water supply and enabling colorful smartphone cases, the organization is helping their customers achieve their ambitions and build a better tomorrow.

A key driver of the organization\\u2019s success is talent. And with over 33,000 employees operating in 50 countries worldwide, Sofian is tasked with helping SABIC translate their corporate strategy into talent & people strategies globally. An I/O Psychologist by trade, he applies evidence-based approaches to enable employee growth across the organization.

And this was the basis of a really engaging conversation covering a number of topics, though with a specific emphasis on the Middle East region. Selfishly, I had a number of questions for Sofian, including:

• What are the unique organizational challenges facing the Middle East region?
• How has organizational psychology contributed to the broader diversification of the economy beyond resources?
• And how do cultural and structural complexities impact talent development and leadership practices within organizations?

I set a goal in 2023 to connect with more diverse voices. And this discussion did not disappoint! From the region\\u2019s unique demographics - 70% of the population is under 30 - to the rapidly-changing social conditions that are impacting every corner of Middle Eastern society, I came away with a deeper understanding of the region.\\xa0
