In this episode of the Thoughtful Entrepreneur, your host Josh Elledge speaks to the founder of Peak Results, Inc. and the Chief Revenue Officer of Intelligent Contacts, Paul Daniels.

Paul is also a speaker, and while he is the Chief Revenue Officer of Intelligent Contacts by day, he also has an advisory firm called Peak Results. He works with business owners, entrepreneurs, and corporate leaders that find themselves wanting to grow and innovate in the face of challenges. Paul has a passion for this work and began his firm after becoming a speaker.

For Paul, it all goes back to how he has worked with his Peak Results clients since he launched his firm in 2007. He shares that there’s a set of secret skills that only about 10% of the population is born with – but these skills make for prolific performance no matter the space. You don’t need to have been born with these skills, however, Paul shares. In the last 15 years, the code to these skills was cracked. Paul calls it “peripheral thinking” which mirrors those natural super skills. The secret? To overcome challenges, no matter the time, you have to become “dyslexic”. It’s not a disability or disease – it’s a learning difference. Studies have shown that those with dyslexia have far better peripheral vision. This sharper peripheral vision has amazing benefits. In fact, between 20% and 30% of entrepreneurs and nearly 40% of self-made millionaires are dyslexic. Even NASA actively recruits those with dyslexia. Dyslexia has been coined ‘the MIT disease’. No matter how you look at it, dyslexia offers an unprecedented skill set that offers peripheral perspective.

Paul shares that this peripheral perspective is exactly what you need to find unique solutions to apply to your business. He also talks about some previous case studies he has conducted. In one study he was a part of, he saw a client experience a breakthrough in real time. This study showed the value of peripheral thinking. A solution his client needed in the healthcare industry was found on a vacation – in the hospitality industry! To stay relevant in your space, you have to think outside of the box and consider things from all angles. Be willing to try new, innovative, and disruptive solutions from unexpected places.

Paul suggests you expand outside of your audience and network. Truly try to find what can correlate from one vertical to the next and use those ideas via peripheral thinking to grow and improve your business.
