On the January 12, 2016 Boomer Generation Radio, the opening guest is Betsy Werley, director of network expansion for Encore.org, which advances the idea of leveraging the skills and talents of experienced adults to improve communities and the world. Sarah Cheney, executive director of Shepherd\'s Centers of America, is the guest in the second half of the program. SCA is a network of interfaith community-based organizations that provide meaning and purpose for adults throughout their mature years. SCA\\u2019s role is to build and support this nationwide network of member organizations. Shepherd\\u2019s Centers all have a commonly understood mission to empower older adults to use their wisdom and skills for the good of their communities.

About the Guests [caption id="attachment_3936" align="alignleft" width="150"]Betsy Werley, director of network expansion, Encore.org Betsy Werley, director of network expansion, Encore.org[/caption] Betsy Werley is Director of Network Expansion at Encore.org. She has dedicated this phase of her career to building the encore movement and helping older adults realize their potential. She moved to the nonprofit sector in 2005, as the first Executive Director of The Transition Network, leading that organization through a growth phase from one chapter to 12. In her Transition Network role, she was also a founding member of Coming of Age New York City and the Encore Network Steering Committee. Betsy was part of the first Encore Innovation Fellows cohort, and joined Encore.org\\u2019s staff in 2014 to continue her work expanding and energizing the Encore Network, as well as developing Encore.org\\u2019s global strategy. Betsy spent the first 26 years of her career as a corporate lawyer and a business executive at JPMorgan Chase. She served as a long-time board member and President of the Financial Women\\u2019s Association, and in 2002, launched a mentoring program for Baruch College undergraduate women business majors. Sarah Cheney, executive director of Shepherd\'s Centers of America, has extensive professional experience in nonprofit management, having held a variety of leadership positions in local and national agencies during her career. Most recently she served on the board of Shepherd\'s Centers of America. Sarah has worked for a private hospital foundation managing fundraising and internal and external marketing initiatives. She has served on the leadership teams of two nationally regarded programs of The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. First, she was assistant director of an adult day services initiative, providing technical assistance and training to help programs develop and strengthen innovative center-based respite services for people with chronic cognitive disorders, particularly dementia. Then, she was appointed deputy director of Faith in Action, a volunteer caregiving initiative. The largest replication program of its kind, Faith in Action provided grant support and technical assistance to help programs matching volunteers to community residents in need of informal support services. Sarah holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, and a Master of Science degree in Health Administration from Towson University in Towson, MD. Sarah lives in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
