James Bessenger is a gay conservative who found himself walking among the rioters on Saturday night in downtown Charleston. Bessenger, who served in the Army, said he wanted to survey the situation as it unfolded with his own eyes.
He explains how 'well organized' the group was and believes the armed Halls Chop House employee who fired shots into the air, not only saved a man's life, but also may have been the reason the riots ended.
