The narratives about wealthy people must change. I've helped many clients over my career, and not all of them were wealthy.
\nAfter all, it was because of a wealthy client that I ended up in this industry. He wrote a letter to the CEO of JP Morgan, and I gave opportunity.
\nMy initial mentors in the industry disturbed me. They spoke negatively about their clients behind closed doors. It's like they resented their wealth. They talked down on wealthy individuals and labeled them as greedy and shrewd. When in fact, it was they who were guilty and shrewd.
\nIn fact, these individuals told me that I wasn't cut out for the industry. They told me I would fail. They said you don't have what it takes.
\nToday, I'm grateful for these naysayers because they taught me two valuable lessons. First, don't let anyone ever tell you what you can and cant not do. Second, the narratives people have about the wealthy are broken.
\nHow can we possibly learn and serve the wealthy if we criticize them? I've seen the tax returns. They pay their fair share, they provide jobs, they do in their community. They give of their time and money.
\nAre there bad rich people out there. I'm sure I just haven't had too many crosses my path. And, when I do, I am happy to walk away.
\nIf you are wealthy, don't let guilt and shame direct your financial decisions. It's an art to protect your wealth and relationships.
\nThe best way to do this is to apply the fiduciary mindset to life and business.
\n1. What is in it for you?
\n2. What's in it for them?
\n3. Are there any conflicts of interest?
\nHave you ever felt guilt and shame in dealing with money and relationships? I hope this message provides value so you can continue to protect and grow your wealth and relationships.
