The Effects of Freedom Songs
WHAT ARE FREEDOM SONGS? And how have they changed America?
We are coming to a close to Black History Month in a couple days and so The Sir Walter Jones Show has decided to dedicate MUSIC WEDNESDAY to the "Struggle"! I bet you know a LOT of Freedom songs? Oh and also, some of these so called Songs of the Underground Railroad songs aren't as accurate as you might have been told. We love to hear the story of the slaves singing the "Follow the Drinking Gourd" while trying to escape MASSA... but umm, it has been reported that this song was written waaay after slavery.
Let's see if we can make sense of these songs today and find out why did they have such an impact on our lives.
