Ned and Robert ride out from the rest of the king’s travelling circus, just the two of them. We get a second contender for Jon Snow’s mysterious mother and get to be a fly on the wall while they discuss a lot of other interesting topics. We examine it all from every angle, and Mac does his best to poke holes in the usefulness of the title of Warden. 

Chapter Review 
Ned and company are making their way to King’s Landing. King Robert, bored of the slow pace, takes Ned out on a ride. While riding, they discuss many topics, some sensitive like Jon’s mother, others important to the realm, such as who should be Warden of the East and what to do about Daenerys Targaryen marrying a Dothraki horse lord. We learn about Robert’s deep-seeded hatred of the Targaryens, why Ned doesn’t trust the Lannisters, and what event almost tore the two apart.

Daenerys Targaryen - Daughter of former king Aerys and sister to Viserys and Rheagar. She has recently married Khal Drogo. 

Rheagar - Crown prince to King Aerys. Killed by Robert in battle. Was accused of taking Lyanna Stark hostage. 

Elia Martel - Rheagar’s wife. 

Jorah Mormont - Exiled knight. Recently pledged his loyalty to Viserys Targaryen. 

Lord Varys - King Robert’s Master of Whisperers. 

Unsullied - Eunuch slave soldiers found on Essos. 

Tywin Lannister - Patriarch of the Lannister family. Lord of Casterly Rock.
