Chapter Seventy - Jon 9 - A Game of Thrones | A Song of Ice and Fire

Jon decides his future lies south of the wall. He rides out to join Robb in his fight. He\\u2019s prevented from his oath-breaking by his friends, who ride after him and drag him back. Jeor Mormont announces that the Night\\u2019s Watch will march north of the Wall to figure out what\\u2019s going on, and Jon better jolly-well come along. The boys prepare for winter.

Chapter Review:
Jon Snow saddles up and, ignoring Sam\\u2019s pleas, heads south to join his brother Robb Stark. He does have a few doubts about the reception his brother will give him. As Lord of Winterfell, Robb might feel the need to behead Jon for oath-breaking. Grenn, Pyp, Toad, Halder, and Matthar catch up with him and, by being unarmed and unarmored, they shame Jon into returning with them.

As he serves Mormont breakfast, he\\u2019s plotting his next escape. But Mormont reveals that he knows his men, and had set a watch on Jon. He\\u2019s going nowhere.

Mormont uses the dastardly trick of logical argument to convince Jon to stay. Is Jon such a great warrior that he would tip the war in Robb\\u2019s favor? Has Jon paid any attention to the portents at the Wall, you know, like the dead rising? The realm\\u2019s real fight is right here, and right here Jon might actually make a difference. The Night\\u2019s Watch will sortie north of the wall to find Benjen Stark, to gain intel on Mance Rayder (the King Beyond the Wall), and to learn the truth about the Others.

Eddard "Ned" Stark - Former Lord of Winterfell. Executed by King Joffrey Baratheon for treason.
Jon Snow - Bastard son of Ned Stark. Recently sworn brother of the Night\\u2019s Watch.
Samwell Tarly - Brother of the Night\\u2019s Watch. Heavy-set and cowardly. Attendant to Maester Aemon. Friend to Jon Snow.
Jeor Mormont - Lord Commander of the Night\\u2019s Watch.
Maester Aemon - 100-year-old maester of the Night\\u2019s Watch. Now revealed to be Aemon Targaryen.
Benjen Stark - First Ranger of the Night\\u2019s Watch. Missing north of the wall. Younger brother of Eddard Stark.
Ser Jaremy Rykker - Acting First Ranger, in Benjen Stark\\u2019s absence.
Mance Rayder - leader of the Wildlings, self-styled King-Beyond-The-Wall.
Ghost - Jon Snow\\u2019s direwolf.
Castle Black - Headquarters of the Night\\u2019s Watch at the Wall.
