New York City Eliminated Its Anti-Crime Unit. Violent Crime Has Surged.
New York City has seen a 53.5% increase in shootings and a 27% increase in killings this year, according to GianCarlo Canaparo, a\xa0legal fellow\xa0with The\xa0Heritage Foundation's\xa0Edwin Meese III Center for\xa0Legal\xa0and\xa0Judicial\xa0Studies.\xa0\nThe New York City Police Department disbanded its plainclothes Anti-Crime Unit amid calls to defund the police in the wake of the killing of George Floyd.
