A U.K. inquiry is probing a long history of undercover police officers infiltrating activist organizations, and deceiving women into relationships — sometimes even fathering children — before disappearing back to their own lives. We talk to environmental activist Helen Steel, who had a long relationship with an undercover officer; Guardian reporter Rob Evans, co-author of Undercover: The True Story of Britain's Secret Police; and Steve Hewitt, senior lecturer in American and Canadian Studies in the history department at the University of Birmingham.
