Matthew Phipps Shiel , who lived from 1865-1947, was a prolific British writer of West Indian descent. His work was lauded by both H.G. Wells and H.P. Lovecraft as essential to the development of weird fiction. Shiel\\u2019s dark imagination continues to influence writers of supernatural fiction to this day.
