On the 47th anniversary of the creation of the Nixon White House's "enemies list," Donald Trump's intensifying attacks on the press are gaining traction: a majority of Republicans believe that the press is the "enemy of the people" rather than "an important part of democracy" according to a new poll. In response to the President of the United States' repeated and escalating attacks on the press, 350 newspapers today issued editorials in support of press freedoms. We join them in calling for the public to speak up in support of journalists and media outlets -- particularly local newspapers and independent outlets -- that are struggling to stay alive right now. Independent media is needed now more than ever. Evidence mounts that Donald Trump and the GOP were lying to the American people in selling their tax cuts for the rich and corporations last year; in fact, those tax cuts won't "pay for themselves," the federal deficit this year will rise to nearly $1 trillion, and corporations haven't increased stagnant wages for the working class, who are now making less than they did before the cuts thanks to inflation. Trump's tariffs and trade wars are also taking a toll on workers, with factories shutting down or moving outside of the U.S. to survive the new higher costs of imported materials hit by Trump's tariffs. Speaking of con jobs by this President, a new report finds his planned military parade is estimated to cost taxpayers some $92 million, far more than the original estimate of $12 million.
