On today's 'BradCast':\xa0 Vice President Mike Pence beclowned himself on Donald Trump's behalf \u2013 again \u2013 in a new op-ed claiming that the administration's response to the coronavirus pandemic is 'a cause for celebration' \u2013 even as the U.S. death toll from the virus hit 119,000 and climbing. Six states on Wednesday saw record spikes in new infections and hospitalizations, because they appear to have reopened for business far too early or their governors downplayed the risk of the virus and the need for simple safety measures. Republican governors of some of those states are either in denial or simply lying to their constituents about the deadly impacts of the virus, falsely claiming the new records are due to increased testing, and ignoring the surge in the percentage of positive tests and hospitalizations. Mayors of major Texas cities have asked Republican Gov. Greg Abbott to allow them to mandate mask-wearing to help slow the record surge of infections, but Abbott has blocked them, instead blaming the spikes on residents under 30 \u2013 who, he says, are not wearing masks. In all, at least 17 states saw a rise in new cases over the past week. Meanwhile, new polls show that Trump appears to be losing ground with voters in a number of key battleground states.\xa0 But Trump has come back from bad poll numbers before.
