In advance of next Tuesday's primaries in eight states, California announces record voter registration numbers. But Texas convinced the U.S. 5th Circuit Court of Appeals to put a stay on a lower court ruling ordering the state to implement online voter registration for those who renew driver's licenses online, that is likely to block online registration until at least after the crucial 2018 midterms, as the case filed by voting rights advocates in 2016 continues to languish. Donald Trump has again infuriated allies, adversaries, and even his own party, as longtime U.S. allies Canada, Mexico and the EU begin to push back against steep tariffs imposed by the Trump Administration on imported steel and aluminum, in what is quickly turning into a full blown global trade war that is likely to increase prices for Americans on many consumer goods. Also today:\xa0 the Trump administration has a new scheme to pick winners and losers in the energy industry by forcing electric grid operators to buy coal and nuclear energy under the guise of a 70-year old, Cold War-era "national security" provision, in order to prop up those failing industries. Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau is facing criticism for his government's purchase of the controversial Trans Mountain pipeline. ALEX DOUKAS of Oil Change International (a Canadian himself) explains "these egregious and terrible decisions that Trump and Trudeau have taken over the last few days," and what they mean for the U.S., Canada, for consumers, and their impact on dangerous climate change. Plus: feedback from computer experts, election integrity advocates, and listeners on our last episode focused on the insane emails sent over the past week from Alabama's seemingly unbalanced Sec. of State John Merrill (R) to Brad, in advance of his state's (and his own) primary elections next week.
