Another major chemical fire in Houston \u2013 the second in two weeks -- kills at least one and underscores Texas' lax regulations on the chemical industry. Donald Trump's nominee for Interior Secretary, top oil and gas lobbyist David Bernhardt, heads to easy confirmation in the U.S. Senate, to fill the vacancy left by corrupt former Secretary Ryan Zinke. Bernhardt has been instrumental in reversing regulations long opposed by the fossil fuel and chemical industry. Secret audio exposed by Reveal shows top oil lobbyists laughing that Bernhardt, "the guy that actually headed up" their legal team challenging federal endangered species protections, is now in charge. In his confirmation hearing, Bernhardt refused to recuse himself from issues involving his former lobbying clients. A Trump White House whistleblower, Tricia Newbold, has come forward to the US House Oversight Committee to expose what she says are at least 25 Trump appointees who failed security clearance checks but were ultimately granted clearance when senior Trump officials over-ruled career security officials -- including two currently-serving senior White House officials who failed background checks. The Committee voted to subpoena Newbold's superior, Carl Kline. White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee-Sanders bizarrely described Congressional oversight as "sad and shameful" and "dangerous" to national security. Hours later, the Secret Service announced it had arrested a Chinese national at Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort, who was carrying a computer thumb-drive reportedly containing "malicious malware".
